Good morning everyone:
Not fantastic but it rained overnight over the Gauteng region between 2mm in the north to 5mm in the Johannesburg region. Little or no rain was detected west of Gauteng. A few showers have also fallen over the extreme northern and north-eastern parts of North-west but most stations reported less than 5mm. Fairly good falls have fallen over Kwazulu-Natal where falls varied between 20mm up to 50mm over the northern interior of this province. A few places upward of 40mm has also fallen over the eastern Highveld but again the falls varied between 10mm up to 45mm with the best falls towards the Piet Retief region. The upper-air trough has moved across the region and it still favour the eastern Highveld areas and the Lowveld with more rain and that also include Kwazulu-Natal. Over the central and western interior mainly sunny and cool but warm again in the afternoon and hot in the west. A few isolated heat storms may expected over the central parts. Mainly sunny and cool over the south-western Cape but it will warm up during the day more so away from the coast.

Take care and have a lovely week-end.

Good morning everyone:
A cold front has moved in over the Cape overnight and although just cloudy at the moment there is still a chance for a few light rain patches in the mountains. It is still raining in the George area but should clear partially as the day progress and the same is valid for the Cape. There is also a band of high and mid level cloud over the northern parts of the Northern Cape, North-West and the western Freestate. Although not fantastic there is a chance for thunderstorm development and a few spots with thundershowers. Still cloudy over parts of the Lowveld at first with a few fog patches but should clear as the day progress and become hot and humid. A few isolated heat storms may break out overnight over these parts while a few thundershowers are also expected over Gauteng, the eastern Highveld, the eastern Freestate and Kwazulu-Natal. It will become cooler over the western interior as the cold front proceed eastwards and will be a welcome relief of extremely high temperatures over the Northern Cape.

Have a great day.

Good morning everyone:

A well defined cold front start to show south-west of the Cape and with the cold front there is also an upper-air trough developing odd the west coast from tonight. One can already see that this upper-air trough is eating away the upper-air high that was in control over the interior the last week. The combination becomes better as we can also see that moisture from the north in the upper-air is moving south over North-West and although not fantastic much better chance for scattered thundershowers from tonight over North-West but when I say scattered it means at best a 40% chance and distribution. This cloudy patches extend to the Freestate and the western parts of Kwazulu-Natal where we can also expect scattered thundershowers with a bit better chance over the southern Drakensberg due to the additional uplift that the mountain present. A weaker secondary band of cloud has moved in over the central parts of the Northern Cape and that presents a 20% chance and distribution of thundershowers later this afternoon and tonight.  As the day progress a coastal low should develop off the Cape west coast and by later this afternoon this coastal low should cross the Cape and may produce at first fog patches along the coast followed by cloudy weather form tonight with a chance for rain. It is still cloudy over parts of the Lowveld this morning with a few fog patches but should clear and become warm and humid. Warm and humid = hot feeling!

Take care and enjoy the day.

Good Morning everyone:

Still cloudy over the central parts of Limpopo and most of the Lowveld and eastern Highveld with fog patches this morning. I do expect this to clear as the morning progress and become warm even hot in a few places. Mostly sunny and mild over Gauteng, North-West and the Freestate but hot in the afternoon when it will become very hot over the central parts of North-West. A coastal low is passing PE this morning with strong south-westerly winds that will spread to E.L as the morning progress, thus take care. It is also cloudy over the south-west Cape coast but sunny and hot away from the coast. There is some mid and high level cloud over Namibia that may lead to a few heat storms again in the afternoon and evening and there may be an odd heat storm drifting in towards the western parts of North-West and the Northern parts of the Northern Cape by late afternoon, evening.

Have a great day!

Good morning everyone:

Overcast mild with mainly fog patches over the greater part of the Highveld including parts of Johannesburg. There is also a bit of drizzle over the high areas of Johannesburg, the Lowveld and escarpment. The upper-air high remains in place over the central and northern interior thus I do not expect significant thunderstorm development over these areas. Mainly sunny and warm over the south-west Cape coast but hot away of the coast. The tropical cyclone that was still present off the south-east coast of Madagascar is now well to the south and has already become a cold front. Dome mid and high level moisture is present over central and southern Namibia and may lead to a few isolated heat storms in the afternoon and early evening.

Have a lovely day and new week.

Good morning everyone:
A fair amount of low level cloud has moved in over the eastern Highveld and Gauteng with a few fog patches. It is also mainly cloudy along the south-east Cape coast and Kwazulu-Natal due to on-shore flow and also a few fog patches against the escarpment areas and here and there a few drizzle patches but I do not expect sigificant falls of rain due to a well defined upper-air high across the interior. The cloud should start to break up during the morning and become more sunny and warm during the late morning. early afternoon. The
tropical depression that was over southern Madagascar is now to the south east and gaining some strength to near cyclone conditions. A bit of high level moisture over the north-west Namibian coast and interior that may lead to a few isolated heat storms in the afternoon. Mostly sunny conditions over the south-west Cape coast and interior and it will become hot away from the coast during the day.

Have a great day

Good morning everyone:
The tropical cyclone can now be downgraded to a tropical depression over southern Madagascar but as it moves further east and start to move over open sea it may re-develop to a moderate tropical cyclone. At the same time the upper-air high is now in place over most of the country and the reason for a rather cool morning over the greater part of the interior. There is weak on-shore flow over the eastern escarpment and Lowveld with fog patches this morning while weak on-shore flow is also present over the south-west Cape coast including the south coast. Some moisture available over north-west and northern Namibia that may lead to a few thundershowers this afternoon and evening. I do not expect any significant development over the interior during the day but as it is cool this morning with a full sunshine day it will become hot in the afternoon.

Good morning everyone:

Yes, there is a lot of low cloud around this morning over Gauteng and the eastern Highveld with a few fog patches. Tropical cyclone sixteen is partially in over western Madagascar with very strong gusty winds but as you will see the low is weakening while it moves in overland. It will regain strength if it moves out to warmer seewater. (That is what the models are forecasting) While this low is in the channel it steal our mid and high level moisture from the I.T.C.Z. (See cloud over northern Mozambique) and this also mean that the upper-air high is taking hold over the interior of South Africa. It will have to heat up significantly during the day for us to see a few heat storms in the late afternoon and or evening. On the northern and north-western border of the upper-air high there is some moisture over northern Namibia that may lead to isolated thundershowers in the afternoon and evening. The flow remain mainly on-shore along the south-west and south Cape coast where it will be partly cloudy in a few places.

Have a lovely day!

Tropical cyclone sixteen is now moving in close to the south-west
coast of Madagascar and there may still be hurricane force winds around the eye
of the storm. This is one of the main reasons for an persistent high pressure in
the upper-air across the interior of SA thus only the toughest heat storms may
occur over the eastern Highveld including the central and northern parts of
Limpopo. The cooler air that I spoke of yesterday has also reached the central
Freestate and temperatures this morning are close to or even below 10C. This
cold air in the morning are an indication of early autumn weather and also make
it really difficult to forecast any significant development in the form of
thundershowers. We need a proper upper-air trough and that I cannot derive from
the data. The flow has become on-shore over the eastern interior and Highveld
with a few fog patches again this morning thus if you land up in fog, put on
your head lights and drive slowly!

Have a great day.
